WELD 223 - Fabrication Layout, Fitment, and Welding


Credits: 1-6
LAB hours per week: 12
This course examines the processes of fabrication and use of specialized fabrication equipment, including but not limited to: Computer Numerical Control (CNC) plasma cutter, press brakes, shears, band saws, drill press, plate rollers, and other welding shop equipment. This class also provides instruction on machine maintenance, shop housekeeping, and safety standards.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or better in WELD 212  and WELD 222 .
Corequisite(s): WELD 203  and WELD 213 .
Course Outcomes:
  • Identify and address safety issues related to fabrication.
  • Operate fabrication equipment safely.
  • Perform material layout, cuts, and bends.
  • Demonstrate proper fit up and assembly.
  • Demonstrate proper tacking.
  • Implement control for thermal distortion during weld process.
  • Plan and perform fabrication to meet time management goals.
