WELD 222 - Pipe Welding Lab II Credits: 1-6 LAB hours per week: 12 This course introduces students to pipe welding safety, industry practices, and processes in a laboratory setting. Students will learn, practice, and apply skills needed for pipe welding with the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GMAW), and Oxy Acetylene Welding processes. Students prepare projects to weld using basic blueprint reading skills and complete lab practice while employing professional, ethical, and safe welding shop behavior. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in WELD 113 and WELD 123 . Corequisite(s): WELD 202 and WELD 212 . Course Outcomes:
- Demonstrate proper set-up, safe operation, maintenance, and inspection of welding machines used for pipe welding applications.
- Apply proper shielding gas flow rate, coverage, and purging with best practices for optimal operation.
- Demonstrate pipe welding in in different positions.
- Employ proper welding technique on pipe utilizing SMAW, GTAW, and OAW processes.
- Perform visual inspection, including identification of defects and discontinuities common in out of position of pipe welding
- Select and use proper filler metal based on Pipe grade, and application.
- Utilize heat control during the pipe welding process.
