WELD 202 - Pipe Welding Credits: 1-3 LEC hours per week: 3 This course examines Welding theory in detail as it relates to Pipe welding of different sizes, and all positions with the processes of SMAW, GTAW, and OFW. It also includes base metal identification, filler electrode selection, basic machine maintenance. Safety standards for all processes are covered. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in WELD 103 . Corequisite(s): WELD 212 and WELD 222 . Course Outcomes:
- Define proper set-up, safe operation, maintenance, and inspection of Welding machines used for pipe welding applications.
- Explain proper shielding gas flow rate, coverage, and best practices for optimal operation.
- Illustrate proper welding technique on Pipe up to 8” in diameter
- Demonstrate knowledge of Pipe Welding essential variables.
- Explain visual inspection, including defects, and discontinuities of Pipe Welding
- Analyze specific aspects for Welding pipe in different positions
Course Topics:
- The importance of the Pipe Welder qualification, as well as limitations, essential variables, expiration, and disqualification.
- Pipe Schedules and Diameter recognition.
- Filler metal Class, Specification, and selection.
- Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
- Pipe Welding techniques and mathematics in welding.
- Handling, preparing, and fitment of pipe welds.
