It also includes filler metal identification, essential variables, thickness and position limitations, and basic machine maintenance. Safety standards for all processes are covered.
Corequisite(s): Student is required to enroll in WELD 103, WELD 113 , and WELD 123 .
Course Outcomes:
  • Identify the essential components for Structural Welder qualifications.
  • Recognize proper plate fit-up for Structural Welder qualification according to AWS D1.1 structural code steel.
  • Interpret blueprints and the various elements of a print.
  • Analyze technical documentation to extrapolate the information needed for performance qualification.
Course Topics:
  1. Types of Structural Welder qualifications.
  2. Essential variables and limitations of each qualification.
  3. Structural Welding Code clause 4 (Qualification) and clause 6 (Inspection).
  4. Limited and unlimited thickness range qualification with Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) processes.
  5. Destructive testing processes of qualification.
  6. Visual examination and non-destructive examination applications.
