WELD 203 - Introduction to Fabrication


Credits: 1-3
LEC hours per week: 3
This course examines fabrication theory and explains in detail the process of concept, design, and drafting of fabrication weldments. In addition to layout, topics include assembly welding and thermal distortion. This class also explores limitations and practical applications of fabrication equipment as well as covering machine maintenance and safety standards.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in WELD 202 .
Corequisite(s): WELD 213  and WELD 223 .

  • Identify and explain safety issues related to fabrication.
  • Interpret and design blueprints.
  • Determine part adjustments and tolerances.
  • Describe weldment assembly and fit-up of components for welding.
  • Identify proper tack weld placement.
  • Explain the concept of thermal distortion control.
