AMM 200 - Automotive Engines


Credits: 2.5
LEC hours per week: 2-10
The student will receive information concerning the complete rebuilding of the automobile engine. This instruction will include checking guides, and installing rod, main and cam bearings, timing gears and chain, pistons and rings. emphasis is on proficiency in the use of the micrometer to measure wear of cylinders, pistons, and crankshafts. This class is structured to provide the student with the background and knowledge to pass the A-1 ASE certification examinations.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C - or higher in AMM 110  and AMM 111 .
Corequisite(s): AMM 201 .
Course Outcomes:
  • Diagnose wear patterns on engine parts from both 4-and 6-cylinder engines.
  • Evaluate engine parts for replacement.
  • Develop a plan for disassembling and reassembling an engine.
  • Create an estimate for recommended repairs.
  • Perform necessary repairs.
  • Install a timing chain on an engine after performing a timing belt installation on a different engine
