PHIL 242 - Ethics and Policy In Healthcare V Credits: 1 LEC hours per week: 1 Explores values, ethics, and legal decision-making frameworks and policies used to support the well-being of people and groups within the context of the healthcare professions. This is a continuation of content from PHIL 140 , PHIL 142 , PHIL 240 , and PHIL 241 . Student may not receive credit for both PHIL 242 and NURS 242. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Nursing Program; Grade C or better in PHIL 140 , PHIL 142 , PHIL 240 , and PHIL 241 . Corequisite(s): NURS 202 and NURS 212 . Course Outcomes:
- Describe the healthcare provider’s role in influencing public policy.
- Specify strategies to stay informed of current legislative and public policy issues related to healthcare.
- Evaluate the ethical implications of current healthcare related legislation.
- Explore the topic “Social Determinants of Health” presented by Healthy People 2030 and discuss the influence of income, race, ethnicity and social class on health.
