PHIL 240 - Ethics and Policy In Healthcare III Credits: 1 LEC hours per week: 1 Explores values, ethics, and legal decision-making frameworks and policies used to support the well-being of people and groups within the context of the healthcare professions. This is a continuation of content from PHIL 140 and PHIL 142 . Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Nursing Program; Grade C or better in PHIL 140 and PHIL 142 . Corequisite(s): NURS 200 and NURS 210 . Course Outcomes:
- Compare and contrast the roles of a leader and a manager within the context of a healthcare organization.
- Describe how a manager uses Lewin’s Change Management Model to effect positive change within a healthcare organization.
- Evaluate the concept of advocacy for the rights of the healthcare consumer.
- Explain the concept of “Just Culture” and its use in healthcare to minimize the risk of errors and improve patient safety.
- Analyze the ethical dilemma that arises from the need for a healthcare organization to contain costs and the possible subsequent effect on patient safety.
- Identify the ethical and legal issues involved in safe delegation of patient care tasks in healthcare.
