PHIL 142 - Ethics and Policy In Healthcare II Credits: 1 LEC hours per week: 1 Explores values, ethics, and legal decision-making frameworks and policies used to support the well-being of people and groups within the context of the healthcare professions. This is a continuation of content from PHIL 140 . Students may not receive credit for both PHIL 142 and NURS 142. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the nursing program; Grade C or better in PHIL 140 . Corequisite(s): NURS 102 and NURS 112 or instructor permission. Course Outcomes:
- Identify potential ethical, legal and confidentiality issues related to Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other healthcare technology.
- Discuss the major forces that influence health care delivery systems (legislation, cost, access, equity, quality).
- Analyze how evidence based practice and quality assurance programs benefit the healthcare provider.
- Using nursing as an exemplar, explore how professional organizations enhance safety and education in healthcare.
- Analyze the ethical dilemmas that arise from healthcare providers’ participation in collective bargaining or “going on strike.”
