AMM 261 - Automotive Brake Systems Lab Credits: 2 LAB hours per week: 4 Training in theory, diagnosis and repair of automotive brake systems. Students will study drum, disc and anti-lock brake systems. This class is structured to provide the student with the background and knowledge to pass the A-5 ASE certification examinations. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C- or higher in AMM 240 and AMM 241 . Corequisite(s): AMM 260 . Course Outcomes:
- Determine the serviceability of brake fluid
- Perform a hydraulic brake system bleed
- Determine the serviceability of brake system components
- Perform brake booster tests
- Replace drum brake shoes
- Use a bench lathe to refinish a brake drum
- Replace wheel cylinders
- Identify parking brake components
- Replace disc brake pads
- Replace a brake caliper
- Use a bench lathe to refinish a brake rotor
- Use an on-car lathe to refinish a brake rotor
- Demonstrate integral caliper piston retraction process
- Test a wheel-speed sensor for function
- Describe the process used to depressurize the ABS system
