AMM 210 - Automotive Electrical Systems


Credits: 2.5

This course is on basic electricity designed to give the student an understanding of electrical theory to include amp flow, voltage, resistance, Ohms Law, electrical circuits, reading wiring diagrams and how to read and use digital or analog volt/ohm/amp meters. Emphasis is placed on diagnosis and repair of electrical systems and their components. This class is structured to provide the student with the background and knowledge for the A-6 ASE certification examinations.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C- or higher in AMM 110  and AMM 111 .
Corequisite(s): AMM 211 .
Course Outcomes:
  • Explain the basic principles of electricity.
  • Define the terms normally used to describe electricity.
  • Use Ohm’s Law to determine voltage, current, and resistance.
  • List the basic types of electrical circuits.
  • Describe the differences between a series circuit and a parallel circuit.
  • Name the various electrical components and their uses in electrical circuits.
  • Describe the different kinds of automotive wiring.
