PMT 121 - Precision Machining Basics II

This course covers theory, operations, and safe application of lathes, milling machines, and precision grinders. It also includes calculations of the dividing head, an assortment of trigonometry problems, and beginning introductions into Computer Numerical Control (CNC).
Prerequisite(s): PMT 109 , AMATH 106 , and PMT 111  
Course Outcomes:
  • Apply proper safety rules and regulations in the shop.
  • Make advanced setups on the lathe
    • Cut precision threads
    • Make internal threads
    • Turn and bore a part to limiting tolerances: +.0005”and -.0005”
  • Operate a dividing head on the mill.
  • Calculate and cut gear teeth on a blank.
  • Calculate problems using trigonometry.
  • Apply safe precision ginding procedures
    • Use surface grinder
    • Use cylindrical grinder
  • Operate a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine.
