PMT 111 - Precision Machining Basics I Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 3 LAB hours per week: 4 Training in the practice of precision measuring tools and bench work. Shop applications include layout technique, drill sharpening, bandsaw operations and proceed into basic lathe theory and applications. Safety and application of precision measurements are component to these studies. Prerequisite(s): PMT 109 and AMATH 106 . Course Outcomes:
- Interpret micrometers, dial or digital calipers, ID micrometers, dial bore gauges and travel indicators.
- Use horizontal/vertical bandsaw to cut raw materials into manageable blanks from various materials.
- Explain how to use and lubricate various bandsaw blades.
- Use a drill press for various jobs.
- Explain all the different parts of a drill press, including the head, base, spindle and so on.
- Use a vertical/horizontal milling machine in its basic setup: a vise clamped to the table for holding the work pieces and the use of the standard collets (tool holders) supplied with each machine.
- Select appropriate tools and speeds for different work orders.
- Use lathes for tooling in numerous configurations.
