AMATH 106 - Quantitative Problem Solving for The Trades I

The course series integrates critical thinking, problem solving and reasoning to match with math skills and critical thinking/problem-solving skills utilized in the workplace. Courses include guided and independent practical problem-solving, contextualized small-group classroom activities and open-ended projects. A prescribed problem-solving structure is followed in real-life math applications aligned to curriculum in professional technical programs.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in AMATH 105, or appropriate placement score.
Course Outcomes:

- Develop and organize problem solutions in writing.
- Interpret given information.
- Create a plan for solving a problem.
- Predict a quantitative outcome.
- Translate given information into mathematical language and solve for an unknown quantity.

unit conversion within and between English and metric unit systems
compound units
direct measurement calculations either conceptually or with measuring tools
perimeter, area, and volume of various geometric shapes and solids
Pythagorean Theorem
common mathematical formulas
algebraic equations with one variable
