PSYC 250 - Psychosocial Issues In Healthcare IV

Examines some determinants of health and illness including social, psychological, environmental, spiritual, and cultural dimensions across the lifespan and within the context of healthcare. This is a continuation of content from PSYC 150  and PSYC 151 .
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Nursing Program; Grade C or better in PSYC 150  and PSYC 151 .
Corequisite(s): NURS 200  and NURS 210 .
Course Outcomes:
  • Compare and contrast the psychosocial indicators of mental health and mental illness.
  • Identify the legal and ethical issues related to the treatment of mental health disorders.
  • Explain how the fields of psychobiology and neurobiology relate to mental health and mental illness.
  • Discuss common treatment modalities used for clients with mental health disorders.
  • Identify the phases of psychological crisis development and methods of effective crisis intervention.
  • Compare and contrast the behaviors associated with substance abuse and eating disorders.
