PSYC 150 - Psychosocial Issues In Healthcare I & II

Examines some determinants of health and illness including social, psychological, environmental, spiritual, and cultural dimensions across the lifespan and within the context of healthcare.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Nursing Program.
Corequisite(s): NURS 100 and NURS 110 or instructor permission.
Course Outcomes:

Evaulate the cultural meaning of health, wellness, and illness.
Describe how various health belief models can be used to accomplish the goals of Healthy People 2020.
Compare and contrast therapeutic communication techniques that facilitate communication and focus on client concerns.
Summarize the development of self-concept and self-esteem using the framework described by Erikson.
Evaluate health disparities among racial and ethnic groups.
Explain how the five constructs of the “Cultural Competence” model result in culturally responsive care.
Discuss how developmental stage, support system, and culture affect the grief response.
Compare and contrast the alterations in cognition, reasoning and mood observed in delerium and dementia.
