PSYC 150 - Psychosocial Issues In Healthcare I & II Credits: 2 LEC hours per week: 2 Examines some determinants of health and illness including social, psychological, environmental, spiritual, and cultural dimensions across the lifespan and within the context of healthcare. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Nursing Program. Corequisite(s): NURS 100 and NURS 110 or instructor permission. Course Outcomes:
- Evaulate the cultural meaning of health, wellness, and illness.
- Describe how various health belief models can be used to accomplish the goals of Healthy People 2020.
- Compare and contrast therapeutic communication techniques that facilitate communication and focus on client concerns.
- Summarize the development of self-concept and self-esteem using the framework described by Erikson.
- Evaluate health disparities among racial and ethnic groups.
- Explain how the five constructs of the “Cultural Competence” model result in culturally responsive care.
- Discuss how developmental stage, support system, and culture affect the grief response.
- Compare and contrast the alterations in cognition, reasoning and mood observed in delerium and dementia.
