PSYC 151 - Psychosocial Issues In Healthcare III Credits: 1 LEC hours per week: 1 Examines some determinants of health and illness including social, psychological, environmental, spiritual, and cultural dimensions across the lifespan and within the context of healthcare. This is a continuation of content from PSYC 150 . Prerequisite(s): Admission to Nursing Program; Grade C or better in PSYC 150 . Corequisite(s): NURS 101 and NURS 111 or instructor permission. Course Outcomes:
- Identify psychosocial issues that may result in a client being resistant to health promotion activities.
- Discuss the psychosocial, emotional, and coping responses to selected acute and chronic medical disorders.
- Describe the psychosocial issues that contribute to Disturbed Body Image related to selected acute and chronic medical disorders.
- Explain how Piaget’s Cognitive Stages of Development and Erickson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development affect a child’s emotional response to illness and/or hospitalization.
- Compare and contrast the psychosocial stressors related to illness and/or hospitalization for infants and children at different levels of growth and development.
