PSYC 151 - Psychosocial Issues In Healthcare III

Examines some determinants of health and illness including social, psychological, environmental, spiritual, and cultural dimensions across the lifespan and within the context of healthcare. This is a continuation of content from PSYC 150 .
Prerequisite(s): Admission to Nursing Program; Grade C or better in PSYC 150 .
Corequisite(s): NURS 101  and NURS 111  or instructor permission.
Course Outcomes:
  • Identify psychosocial issues that may result in a client being resistant to health promotion activities.
  • Discuss the psychosocial, emotional, and coping responses to selected acute and chronic medical disorders.
  • Describe the psychosocial issues that contribute to Disturbed Body Image related to selected acute and chronic medical disorders.
  • Explain how Piaget’s Cognitive Stages of Development and Erickson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development affect a child’s emotional response to illness and/or hospitalization.
  • Compare and contrast the psychosocial stressors related to illness and/or hospitalization for infants and children at different levels of growth and development.
