NAIL 122 - Nail Technology II Practical Application


Credits: 1-7
Advanced instruction of nail technology including add-on services. Continue to independently and safely practice nail technology methods at level IV. This course is designed to allow students to complete the remainder of the degree requirement of 600 hours and 2 quarters, as required by state law and WWCC, respectively.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Evaluate condition of client’s nail and skin (i.e., nail assessment)
  2. Recognize conditions that would prohibit service (i.e., contraindications)
  3. Determine services or products
  4. Maintain client records (e.g., service history, client card, health history)
  5. Follow practices for safe use of tools (i.e., equipment, implements, and supplies)
  6. Perform sanitation of client’s and hands and/or feet
  7. Perform procedures safely for basic manicure and/or pedicure service
    • Shape nails
    • Cuticle detailing (e.g., cuticle pushing, removal, conditioning)
    • Cleanse nails
    • Buff nails
    • Exfoliate (e.g., foot file, scrub, AHA)
    • Perform basic massage
  8. Recognize effects of massage types
  9. Recognize purpose and procedures for add-on services
    • Paraffin
    • Hot oil/lotion
    • Masks (e.g., detox, moisture)
    • Soak-off
  10. Demonstrate nail tip application
  11. Demonstrate acrylic nail application
  12. Demonstrate use of light-cured gels
  13. Perform post-service procedures following infection control guidelines

Course Topics:
  1. Infection control and safety practices while performing advanced manicure/pedicure procedures including add-on services
  2. Tools to completed advanced manicure/pedicure procedures including add-on services
  3. Nail products used to complete advanced manicure/pedicure and add-on services
