NAIL 112 - Nail Technology I Practical Application Credits: 1-7 Introduction to the basic services of nail technology. Practice in cleaning/disinfecting, sterilization, scientific concepts, manicuring, pedicuring, and introduction to all enhancement services. Course Outcomes:
- Recognize purpose and/or effects of infection control principles (e.g., cleansing, sanitation, disinfection, sterilization) and levels of infection control.
- Understand and demonstrate the process of infection control (e.g., dispensing of products, disposal of soiled materials, storage of supplies.
- Recognize when cross-contamination occurs.
- Differentiate between the purposes of single-use and multi-use tools.
- Demonstrate the use of single-use and multi-use tools.
- Understand and demonstrate blood exposure/contact procedures.
- Explain purpose and effects of products and ingredients.
- Demonstrate use of products and ingredients.
- Recognize interaction between chemicals.
- Recognize physical interactions with chemicals when applied to finger nail.
- Recognize adverse chemical reactions (e.g., overexposure, chemical burn).
Course Topics:
- Apply infection control and safety practices while performing basic manicure/pedicure procedures on manikins and customers
- Use tools to complete basic manicure/pedicure procedures on manikins and customers
- Use nail products to complete basic manicure/pedicure on manikins and customers
