PHIL 242 - Ethics and Policy In Healthcare V Credits: 1 Explores values, ethics, and legal decision-making frameworks and policies used to support the well-being of people and groups within the context of the healthcare professions. This is a continuation of content from PHIL 140 , PHIL 142 , PHIL 240 , and PHIL 241 . Student may not receive credit for both PHIL 242 and NURS 242. Course Outcomes:
- Describe the healthcare provider’s role in influencing public policy.
- Specify strategies to stay informed of current legislative and public policy issues related to healthcare.
- Evaluate the ethical implications of current healthcare related legislation.
- Explore the topic “Social Determinants of Health” presented by Healthy People 2030 and discuss the influence of income, race, ethnicity and social class on health.

- Current issues in healthcare legislation
- Ethical implications of healthcare legislation
- Influence of social factors on health and illness
