PHIL 240 - Ethics and Policy In Healthcare III

Explores values, ethics, and legal decision-making frameworks and policies used to support the well-being of people and groups within the context of the healthcare professions. This is a continuation of content from PHIL 140  and PHIL 142 .
Course Outcomes:
 

  1. Compare and contrast the roles of a leader and a manager within the context of a healthcare organization.
  2. Describe how a manager uses Lewin’s Change Management Model to effect positive change within a healthcare organization.
  3. Evaluate the concept of advocacy for the rights of the healthcare consumer.
  4. Explain the concept of “Just Culture” and its use in healthcare to minimize the risk of errors and improve patient safety.
  5. Analyze the ethical dilemma that arises from the need for a healthcare organization to contain costs and the possible subsequent effect on patient safety.
  6. Identify the ethical and legal issues involved in safe delegation of patient care tasks in healthcare.
