AHSE 266 - Physical Assessment


Credits: 1-2
Designed as a review for the practicing nurse or allied health professional, or as skills reinforcement for the student nurse. Practical application of clinical physical assessment skills will be the major focus of this course. Content will begin with a technique for history-taking and then assess selected major body systems.
Course Outcomes:
 

  1. Demonstrate accurate history taking and physical assessment skills.
  2. Determine appropriate clinical application of physical assessment skills.
  3. Accurately assess the various body systems, with an emphasis on major systems such as cardiac, neurological, pulmonary and GI/GU.
  4. Correctly use medical terminology to describe assessment findings.

Course Topics:
 

  1. History taking: common methodologies
  2. Body system evaluation: cardiac, neurological, pulmonary and GI/GU
  3. Clinical assessment of individual body systems
