BIOL& 242 - Human Anatomy & Physiology II

Credits: 5
This course is the second of a two-quarter sequence which studies the structure and function of the human body. This course is intended for Nursing and Allied Health majors in fulfillment of the pre-Nursing (or health care related) program lab science requirements. Topics include the following systems: endocrine, reproductive, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, and immune. Laboratory work may include mammalian dissections, online simulations, study of models, and microscopy.
Course Outcomes:

  1. Apply major terms, vocabulary, methods and concepts relevant to anatomy and physiology.
  2. Use anatomical and physiological vocabulary in oral and written communication.
  3. Identify the components of the major organ systems and describe their location in anatomical terms.
  4. Analyze the normal anatomy, functions, and mechanisms of the endocrine, reproductive, cardiovascular, immune, respiratory, and urinary systems and predict the effects of disease in those systems.
  5. Apply concepts and knowledge of terminology, structure and function related to each organ system.
  6. Analyze physiological measurements of organ systems to determine if they are within a healthy range or indicate an abnormality.
  7. Explain how the body systems function to maintain homeostasis and how imbalances of these systems lead to disease.
  8. Analyze fluids and tissues.
  9. Use discipline-specific laboratory materials, such as dissection tools, models, and compound microscopes, to analyze the structure of tissues and preserved specimens.

Course Topics:

  1. Systems of the human body - endocrine, reproductive, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, and immune.
  2. Laboratory work may include mammalian dissections, online simulations, study of models, and microscopy.
