WELD 171 - Aluminum Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Credits: 1-9 LAB hours per week: 18 This course introduces students to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) for aluminum, and related safety, industry practices, and processes in a laboratory setting. Students will learn, practice, and apply skills needed for safe welding processes and operation of GTAW equipment while employing safe, professional, and ethical welding shop behavior. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in WELD 170 . Corequisite(s): WELD 105 . Course Outcomes:
- Practice safety essentials, including
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use
- Shop safety
- Equipment safety
- Interpret and explain blueprints and the various elements of a print.
- Design a blueprint
- Demonstrate how to power up the power sources and select proper settings for Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW).
- Deposit a fillet weld in 2F, 3F, and 4F positions and a groove weld in 1G, 2G, and 3G positions.
- Safely operate a chop saw, band saw, and skill saw.
- Set-up and program the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) plasma cutter and CNC hydraulic bender
- Employ actuate measuring with tape measure, rulers, and calipers.
- Prepare and clean pieces before welds

- Filler metal classification for aluminum processes.
