WELD 170 - Aluminum Gas Metal Arc Welding GMAW

This course introduces students to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) for aluminum, and related safety, industry practices, and processes in a laboratory setting. Students will learn, practice, and apply welding skills on a variety of aluminum joint designs that are directly relevant to the work required in the industry while employing safe, professional, and ethical welding shop behavior.
Corequisite(s): Students must enroll in WELD 104 and WELD 170.
Course Outcomes:

Practice safety essentials, including
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use
- Shop safety
- Equipment safety
Interpret and explain blueprints and the various elements of a print
Demonstrate how to power up the power sources and select proper settings for Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW).
Deposit a fillet weld in 2F, 3F, and 4F positions and a groove weld in 1G, 2G, and 3G positions.
Safely operate a chop saw, band saw, and skill saw.
Set-up and program the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) plasma cutter and CNC hydraulic bender.
Employ actuate measuring with tape measure, rulers, and calipers
