ART 131 - Painting II Credits: 4 LEC hours per week: 2 LAB hours per week: 4 Intermediate course for exploration of the various methods of painting. Prerequisite(s): ART 130 Course Outcomes:
- Demonstrate increased hand and eye coordination as applied to painting.
- Explain and apply major terms, vocabulary, methods, concepts, and theories relevant to painting.
- Use tools and materials proficiently.
- Compose acrylic paintings from observation and imagination, employing different stylistic choices.
- Demonstrate ethical and responsible use of media and information.

- Art vocabulary and painting terminology
- Color theory
- Types of brushes and brushstrokes
- Painting supports: paper, canvas, wood, board
- Acrylic painting techniques
- Composition
- Painting from observation
- The formal elements of art and the principles of design
- Continued study of the styles of art: naturalism, realism, semi-abstraction, abstraction
- Famous artists and the history of painting
- Developing stylistic choices and choosing one’s own subject matter
- Honing one’s own style of painting
- Ethical and responsible use of media and information
