EST 110 - Refrigeration Components Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 3 LAB hours per week: 4 This course covers the mechanical equipment used in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. Students will be introduced to the proper troubleshooting techniques and practice using those techniques to repair this equipment. The proper application and repair of evaporators, condensers, compressors, expansion devices, and special components will be studied and practiced. Prerequisite(s): Grade C or higher in EST 100 or EST 101 or instructor permission. Course Outcomes:
- Determine evaporator pressure, the evaporating refrigerant temperature and the amount of evaporator superheat.
- Identify and explain the operation of different types of evaporators.
- Determine condenser pressure, temperature, superheat and subcooling.
- Identify and explain the operation of different types of condensers.
- Identify the five types of compressors.
- Determine if compressor is performing normally using all industry standard measurements.
- Identify three of the most popular expansion devices.
- Adjust expansion valves to industry standards.
- Adjust system charge using various metering devices per manufacturing protocol.
