EST 100 - Refrigeration Basics


Credits: 5

LAB hours per week: 4
Course will provide basic understanding of the laws of physics which are applicable to the refrigeration industry. Students will be taught refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging techniques in addition to the safe use of temperature meters and gauge manifolds. Students will prepare for and take their Federal EPA-608 Technician Certification Exam during this course.
Course Outcomes:
  • Identify the laws of physics in relation to the refrigeration industry.
  • Describe the function of the basic refrigeration cycle.
  • Demonstrate proper industry standard safety applications and procedures.
  • Apply industry standard refrigerant recovery processes.
  • Demonstrate industry standard charging processes for refrigeration and/or air conditioning systems.
  • Pass the environmental refrigerant management (EPA-068) certification exam or industry equivalent certification exams.
