GWST 200 - Introduction to Gender Studies Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 Analysis of the construction and enforcement of gender differences and inequalities, studied from a multidisciplinary and multicultural perspective. Emphasis on the intersection of ethnicity, nationality, class, and gender in women’s lives, and how these intersecting constructs impact women’s past, present, and future contributions. Recommended: READ 088 or higher. Course Outcomes:
- Describe the influences of culture and historical context on gender issues.
- Analyze how the social construct of gender interacts with class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, able-bodiedness, and other categories of difference.
- Apply gender studies terminology in writing and discussion.
- Evaluate different evidence-based perspectives in the formulation and analysis of a problem or question in the area of gender studies.
- Construct coherent, organized written and spoken expression related to gender issues.
