HIST& 148 - US History III

Survey of the significant individuals, groups, and events that have shaped the growth and development of the United States from 1900 to the present. Particular attention will be given to the political, economic, religious, and cultural foundations of this development.
Recommended: READ 088  or higher.
Course Outcomes:
  • Apply research skills to find primary historical documents (print & digital media).
  • Analyze the development of the United States in the 20th and early 21st centuries, using historical methods.
  • Determine which events/movements/individuals were integral to the development of the United States in the 20th and early 21st centuries.
  • Analyze cause and effect relationships in past events and human interactions.
  • Recognize the effect of the past upon present decision-making.
  • Evaluate historical data.
  • Practice group interaction within projects.
Course Topics:
  1. Brief review of pre-1900 American history.
  2. Demographic overview of the US in 1900.
  3. Examination of significant domestic issues from 1900 to present.
  4. Examination of significant foreign policy issues from 1900 to present.
  5. Analysis of symbolic individuals/groups from 1900 to present.
  6. Brief overview of demographic changes in the United States from 1900 to present.
