PSYC& 220 - Abnormal Psychology Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 Study of origins and characteristics of maladaptive behavior with emphasis on scientific research on the causes and treatment approaches to psychopathology. Topics include anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, substance abuse disorders, dissociative disorders, and problems of cognitive function and childhood disorders. Formerly: PSY 250. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in PSYC& 100 . Recommended: READ 088 or higher Course Outcomes:
- Compare and contrast current biological, psychological and social explanations of mental illness.
- Explain the terminology of disorders as well as the symptoms and indicators as identified in the DSM-5.
- Analyze the individual and societal impact of psychological disorders.
- Appraise the value and validity of research in the area of abnormal psychology.
