SPAN& 122 - Spanish II Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 Introductory course for students wishing to learn Spanish as a second language. Provides a foundation for practical interpersonal communications. Topics include pronunciation, basic grammar, reading, writing, and an introduction to Hispanic culture. Formerly: SPAN 102. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in SPAN& 121 or instructor permission. Course Outcomes:
- Compose expository presentations in Spanish.
- Exchange information both orally and in writing.
- Conjugate verbs in the preterit tense, including stem changing and irregular verbs, for varying subjects in written and oral Spanish.
- Conjugate verbs in the imperfect tense, including irregular verbs, for varying subjects in written and oral Spanish.
- Identify direct and indirect objects in a sentence, and replace with the proper pronoun.
- Form commands in Spanish.
- Explain the diversity of cultural influences both in student’s own culture and those of Spanish-speaking countries.
- Explain the origins of Spanish words and cultural values and ideas.
- Use technology for learning and communicating in Spanish.
- Initiate and develop empathetic and productive interactions with people from other cultures, especially Spanish-speaking cultures.
