SPAN& 121 - Spanish I

Introductory course for students wishing to learn Spanish as a second language. Provides a foundation for practical interpersonal communications. Topics include pronunciation, basic grammar, reading, writing, and an introduction to Hispanic culture. Formerly: SPAN 101.
Course Outcomes:
  • Exchange information both orally and in writing.
  • Distinguish and demonstrate appropriate forms of address.
  • Use technology for learning and communicating in Spanish.
  • Explain the origins of Spanish words and cultural values and ideas.
  • Apply noun adjective agreement within Spanish sentences as it pertains to gender and number.
  • Conjugation: verbs correctly in the present tense, including stem-changing and irregular verbs, for varying subjects in written and oral Spanish.
  • Explain the diversity of cultural influences both in student’s own culture and those of Spanish-speaking countries.
