|
***Not available to Clarkston, Walla Walla and online students
The advanced certificate builds on the principles of the one-year certificate providing students with a deeper understanding of air conditioning, ventilation, heating systems, controls, and includes commercial refrigeration, duct design, and system performance.
Students prepare for entry-level employment in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration industry including energy management systems. The technical skills and knowledge acquired in this program will also provide students with troubleshooting and mechanical skills necessary to service, repair and install equipment in these areas.
Graduates of the HVACR Certificate will enter the workforce with a knowledge base and solid skillset, making them attractive potential employees for HVAC companies. They will have the necessary skills to recover, evacuate and recharge air conditioning equipment, and safely perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. Students who complete the certificate will also earn their EPA 608 refrigerant handler’s card.
Certificate Outcomes:
- Take part in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing/replacing wiring and mechanical equipment safely using testing devices and power tools.
- Utilize knowledge of electrical safety, theory, vocabulary, and calculations of series, parallel, and combination circuits involving direct and alternating current.
- Apply knowledge of capacitors, resistive-inductive-capacitive reactance circuits, single and three-phase transformers, DC generators and motors, three-phase alternators, and single and three-phase motors.
- Utilize schematics; wire and test various types of electrical circuits.
- Demonstrate proper safety procedures for working with rotating machinery, moving heavy objects, pressurized vessels and systems, chemicals, ladders and energy: electrical, heat, cold, fluid. Explain solid state components and devices.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the refrigeration cycle and the scientific principles behind it to diagnose and solve HVAC, domestic and commercial refrigeration system issues.
