Diesel Technology, AAS

Diesel Technology provides a hands-on, work-based training experience and the classroom instruction required for careers in diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty trucks, forklifts, heavy equipment and agricultural equipment. Diesel Technology integrates the many components necessary to prepare students with the technical knowledge and mechanical skills required to service, repair, and test various types of machinery. An extensive curriculum prepares students to apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of diesel powered equipment applications. Diesel Technology curriculum is reviewed by an advisory board composed of local and regional industry members.

Degree Outcomes:

  1. Identify key operating systems of on and off-road commercial vehicles.  
  2. Describe the individual components of key operating systems and functions in vehicle operation. 
  3. Analyze and repair key operating systems by applying knowledge of individual components and using the necessary tools and technology. 
  4. Employ current industry safety guidelines and standards to ensure a safe working environment.  
  5. Prepare for work in the industry by completing a cooperative work experience or Commercial Driver’s License training. 

Transferability: The AAS Degree is designed for students planning to enter their chosen career upon graduation. Often only selected credits are considered transferable to public or private baccalaureate institutions.

** DT 191 : a minimum of 360 hours (12 credits) actual on-the-job mechanical experience is required. Student must have at least 800 hours of actual shop experience to meet the requirements for graduation. At least 600 hours must be on-campus shop experience.
