MEDA 191 - Medical Assisting Practicum Credits: 7 This practical course is designed for students to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired in a medical office or clinic. Course Outcomes:
- Apply cognitive knowledge gained in the Medical Assisting program.
- Demonstrate psychomotor skills learned during the Medical Assisting program in an office or clinical setting.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills when performing patient care and assessments, and with patients during emergency situations
- Demonstrate affective behavior such as empathy, reassurance, active listening, response to non-verbal communication, self-awareness, tactfulness, awareness of personal boundaries, and respect for diversity as appropriate in dealing with patient concerns.
- Correctly use and pronounce medical terminology in health care interactions.
- Carry out the duties of a Medical Assistant in collaboration with providers and patients, including in patient exams.
- Demonstrate professional telephone techniques and document telephone messages accurately.
- Using technology, compose clear and correct correspondence.
