ART 102 - Drawing II

Intermediate course designed for further exploration of the basic techniques of drawing using a variety of media. Lab hours required.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Display thematic development over a series of drawings.
  2. Demonstrate increased hand and eye coordination.
  3. Explain and apply major terms, vocabulary, methods, concepts, and theories relevant to drawing.
  4. Use tools and materials proficiently.
  5. Construct drawings from observation and imagination.
  6. Demonstrate ethical and responsible use of media and information.

Course Topics:
  1. Choosing one’s own subject matter and developing themes
  2. Hand and eye coordination
  3. Basic art vocabulary and drawing terminology
  4. Analysis and evaluation of drawings
  5. Introduction to materials, techniques, and styles of drawing
  6. Discovery and enjoyment of the expressive qualities of drawing that drawing can offer the individual
  7. Ethical and responsible use of media and information
  8. The formal elements of art and the principles of design
  9. Figure ground relationships and positive and negative space
  10. Perspective
  11. Composition
  12. Proportion and measure
  13. Drawing from observation
  14. Drawing from imagination and thematic development
