MATH 046 is an intermediate algebra course to be taken concurrently with MATH& 146. The course focuses on developing and applying numeric, algebraic, graphic, and metacognitive skills necessary for success in MATH& 146, Introduction to Statistics. This course has Pass/Not Pass grading.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in MATH 071, MATH 014, CAP 014, HSC 014, or AMATH 106, appropriate math placement, or permission of the Mathematics Department.
Corequisite(s): MATH& 146.
Recommended: READ 088 or higher.
Course Outcomes:

Use Order of Operations to evaluate expressions including those with fractions, square roots, absolute value, plus-minus, and positive integer exponents.
Calculate with and convert between decimals, fractions, and percentages and interpret their significance in a variety of contexts.
Translate between simple word phrases and mathematical notation, using variables to represent quantities where necessary.
Create, use, and interpret linear models in a variety of authentic settings.
Compare the magnitude of real numbers.
Calculate statistical quantities by evaluating formulas and solving equations.
