MATH 046 - Corequisite Algebra for MATH& 146 Credits: 4 LEC hours per week: 4 MATH 046 is an intermediate algebra course to be taken concurrently with MATH& 146 . The course focuses on developing and applying numeric, algebraic, graphic, and metacognitive skills necessary for success in MATH& 146 , Introduction to Statistics. This course has Pass/Not Pass grading. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in MATH 071 , MATH 014 , CAP 014 , HSC 014 , or AMATH 106 , appropriate math placement, or permission of the Mathematics Department. Corequisite(s): MATH& 146 . Recommended: READ 088 or higher. Course Outcomes:
- Use Order of Operations to evaluate expressions including those with fractions, square roots, absolute value, plus-minus, and positive integer exponents.
- Calculate with and convert between decimals, fractions, and percentages and interpret their significance in a variety of contexts.
- Translate between simple word phrases and mathematical notation, using variables to represent quantities where necessary.
- Create, use, and interpret linear models in a variety of authentic settings.
- Compare the magnitude of real numbers.
- Calculate statistical quantities by evaluating formulas and solving equations.
- Read, interpret, and construct graphs, charts, and tables.
- Use technology as a tool for calculating and graphing.
- Access and use educational resources and strategies to supplement learning.
- Practice productive struggle to creatively solve problems, enhance metacognition, and strengthen independent learning.
