MATH 046 - Corequisite Algebra for MATH& 146

MATH 046 is an intermediate algebra course to be taken concurrently with MATH& 146 . The course focuses on developing and applying numeric, algebraic, graphic, and metacognitive skills necessary for success in MATH& 146 , Introduction to Statistics. This course has Pass/Not Pass grading.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in MATH 071 , MATH 014 , CAP 014 , HSC 014 , or AMATH 106 , appropriate math placement, or permission of the Mathematics Department.
Corequisite(s): MATH& 146 .
Recommended: READ 088  or higher.
Course Outcomes:
 

  • Use Order of Operations to evaluate expressions including those with fractions, square roots, absolute value, plus-minus, and positive integer exponents.
  • Calculate with and convert between decimals, fractions, and percentages and interpret their significance in a variety of contexts.
  • Translate between simple word phrases and mathematical notation, using variables to represent quantities where necessary.
  • Create, use, and interpret linear models in a variety of authentic settings.
  • Compare the magnitude of real numbers.
  • Calculate statistical quantities by evaluating formulas and solving equations.
