HVACR 200 - Ductwork Design and Fabrication

Credits: 4
LAB hours per week: 6
Demonstrate a heat loss/gain calculation to determine proper load for a residence, students will perform equipment sizing and selection, use duct calculator to design supply and return ductwork. Air distribution and air balance, duct component fabrication and installation, duct sealing duct PTSA duct testing will be covered to give student understanding and application for energy savings using green technology.
Course Outcomes:
  • Design a residential ductwork floor plan by surveying a room, making a sketch, and including a material schedule.
  • Use available software to recommend equipment and calculate load.
  • Plan the airflow for a duct system using duct-calculator.
  • Calculate Total Equivalent Length (TEL) of a duct system.
  • Use sheet metal hand tools and equipment to fabricate basic fittings.
  • Evaluate the building envelope, system sizing, and performance for a green energy environment.
  • Assess building efficiency by performing a blower door test.
  • Validate ductwork efficiency by using a Duct-blaster test.
  • Perform Residential Energy Audits and Manual J Load Calculations.
