ART 167 - Sculpture I Credits: 4 LEC hours per week: 2 LAB hours per week: 4 Introduction to the theory and application of three-dimensional forms in space using a variety of media such as plaster, wire, steel assemblage, cardboard and wood. Course Outcomes:
- Define fundamental sculptural terms and concepts.
- Demonstrate a basic proficiency in sculptural techniques and improvement in implementation through the duration of the quarter.
- Create three-dimensional art using basic sculptural materials and techniques.
- Communicate ideas and emotions visually, as it pertains to sculpture.
- Explain how historical context and the evolution of sculpture techniques and processes enhances the understanding of visual mediums.
- Develop an understanding of individualistic creative processes and self-expression.
Course Topics:
- Formal elements and design principles as applied to sculpture
- Sculptural terminology
- Introduction to a variety of sculpture materials which may include plaster, clay, wire, steel, cardboard, wood, and paper
- Introduction to a variety of sculptural techniques including sculpture and low relief sculpture, additive and subtractive processes
