CARP 171 - Introduction to Carpentry

Introduction to the construction industry and principles of residential building construction. Coursework includes excavation, footings, foundations, wall framing, trusses, sheathing and tool safety.
Course Outcomes:
  • Identify safe and professional construction environment practices.
  • Describe how a building is laid out on a lot.
  • Identify the types of foundation.
  • Describe the rough framing used for a building.
  • Identify different types of fasteners.
  • Explain how each type of fastener is used.
