CARP 171 - Introduction to Carpentry Credits: 6 LEC hours per week: 6 Introduction to the construction industry and principles of residential building construction. Coursework includes excavation, footings, foundations, wall framing, trusses, sheathing and tool safety. Course Outcomes:
- Identify safe and professional construction environment practices.
- Describe how a building is laid out on a lot.
- Identify the types of foundation.
- Describe the rough framing used for a building.
- Identify different types of fasteners.
- Explain how each type of fastener is used.
- Explain techniques for interior and exterior wall framing used by the construction industry.
- Interpret kinds of symbols used in architecture.
