PHYS& 116 - General Physics III With Lab Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 4 LAB hours per week: 2 This is part three of an algebra-based physics sequence intended for non-physical science majors. Topics include electricity and magnetism, optics, and selected topics in modern physics (relativity, structure of the atom, quantum theory, etc.). Lab work required. Formerly: PHYS 123. Course Outcomes:
- Build simple DC circuits and predict their behavior.
- Describe the interaction of electric and magnetic fields.
- Analyze electromagnetic waves in terms of ray and wave optics.
- Describe the modern physics principles of special relativity and quantum theory.
- Solve quantitative problems related to related to electricity and magnetism, optics, and topics from modern physics using algebra and trigonometry.
- Design and carry out laboratory experiments that relate to DC circuits and elementary optics.
