AENG 100 - Writing In The Workplace


Credits: 5
LEC hours per week: 5
Writing course prepares students to be effective writers in the workplace. The course focuses on career related writing, especially for students in a professional-technical career pathway. Students compose, design, revise, and edit effective letters, memos, and employment documents including a resume and cover letter. An emphasis of the course is on the use of language to communicate information clearly, and precisely.
Recommended: Previous or concurrent enrollment in CS 100  or CS 110 , and ENGL 097 .
Course Outcomes:
  • Apply planning and research strategies for writing assignments by using the outlining process.
  • Apply the six basic qualities of a business message: courtesy, clarity, conciseness, concreteness, correctness, and completeness.
  • Use business writing techniques to produce emails, memos, and letters.
  • Apply proper editing and proofreading skills to all written documents.
  • Produce professional documents using appropriate computer programs.
  • Analyze various components of a resume and cover letter to choose the most appropriate format for specific job search.
