ANSC 115 - Animal Health and Disease Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 Basic information on animal health and disease prevention. Topics include fundamentals of the nature of disease, nutrition, sanitation, disinfection, immunization, and basic husbandry practices. Formerly: AGPR 115. Course Outcomes:
- Outline and describe the causes, methods of transmission, and the prevention of diseases.
- Describe briefly the structure and function of the various systems of the animal body.
- Recognize and describe the non-infectious disorders.
- Explain the life cycles of external and internal parasites and methods of control.
- Identify various poisonous plants indigenous to the Pacific Northwest.
- Exhibit knowledge of infectious diseases that are common in the Pacific Northwest.
- Demonstrate the procedure on taking the temperature, heart and respiration rate of an animal and explain the significance of each.
- Demonstrate the correct procedure for the proper restraints of animals.
- Describe the process and supporting factors of immunization.
- Demonstrate the correct procedure for the proper administration of vaccines.
