BIOL 267 - Pathophysiology Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 This course focuses on the changes in cellular and systemic physiology that occur in prevalent or important medical conditions. The physiological basis of disease associated with the major organ systems will be investigated from the cellular to organismal level. In each case, the effect upon whole body homeostasis will be explored. This course will build on prior knowledge of anatomy and physiology as we explore body functions in altered health conditions. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in BIOL& 252 or BIOL& 242 or concurrent enrollment in BIOL& 242 or permission of Science Division Chair Course Outcomes:
- Explain the concept, classification, and etiology of disease states.
- Analyze how disease states alter normal anatomy and physiology.
- Interpret the alterations in cells, tissues, and organs that occur with disease and how they affect the body functions.
- Describe the clinical manifestations of diseases and the most commonly used diagnostic procedures.
- Discuss the most frequent complications of diseases and their prognosis.
- Explain the pathophysiological foundation for treatments / therapy.
