CAP 090 - CAP Transitions Credits: 2.5 LEC hours per week: 2.5 This course allows students to develop and demonstrate strategies to adjust to the college experience, to develop a better understanding of the learning process, learn about programs and pathways available on campus, understand current abilities, characteristics, readiness to learn, and to acquire essential academic survival skills as students transition to higher level classes. Course Outcomes:
- Evaluate one’s reading process of fiction and nonfiction using the following reading strategies:
- Explain program policies and student responsibilities.
- Develop personal and academic goals.
- Analyze habits and behaviors of successful students vs. struggling students.
- Evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses to develop personal success plans for all areas of life.
- Describe academic pathways available at WWCC and transfer colleges.
- Identify additional steps to explore pathways.
- Identify employment training and job resources available in the community.
- Contrast academic demands of higher level classes.

- Career research and exploration.
- Personality inventories & career relevance.
- Demystifying the Free Application for Federal StudentAid (FAFSA).
- Accuplacer, CASAS, other Assessments, SAT and ACT preparation.
- Service learning community mentoring & leadership.
- College admission process and criteria.
- College and secondary institution research.
- Financial Planning, scholarships, and how to afford college.
- Presentation technology (Prezi, Power Point, etc.)
- Navigating and using WWCC’s online course student interface (CANVAS).
- College information systems (Degree Audit, degree and program guides, e-schedule, Transfer website, Student Portal, Financial Aid Portal).
