CJ 495 - Criminal Justice Capstone Credits: 1-6 LEC hours per week: 6 This course is an opportunity for students to gain an emic perspective of the criminal justice system with a structured, extended, off-campus internship. Students are expected to synthesize acquired knowledge obtained from the BAS Administration in Criminal Justice program and demonstrate critical thinking and decision-making skills. Students are responsible for obtaining an internship position with instructor approval. Taken in the final year. This course is for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science Program. Course Outcomes:
- Gain work experience and explore possible career opportunities.
- Develop and sharpen practical career-related skills.
- Apply methods, theory, and related academic knowledge and skills, with particular emphasis on legal and ethical issues related to their position.
- Prepare employment application materials including a resume.
- Practice job interviewing skills.
- Track practicum learning objectives, self-evaluate progress, and discuss best practices.
- Demonstrate professionalism and ability to fulfill all duties of the position.
- Identify potential policy and procedure issues of a current criminal justice organization with intent to develop specific and appropriate resolutions.
- Recognize operations, equipment, forms, and reports of the interning organization.
