CMST& 220 - Public Speaking

Develops students’ competency in planning, preparing, presenting, and evaluating basic speeches. Formerly: SPCH 101.
Course Outcomes:
  • Recognize the many causes of speech anxiety and determine ways to conquer or reduce related apprehensions.
  • Model the important role of a respectful and supportive audience member.
  • Utilize appropriate listening techniques.
  • Describe the ethics of public speaking.
  • Determine the importance of appropriate, thoughtful, and correct word choice and language in oral presentations.
  • Design a successful speech from outline to delivery.
  • Employ verbal and non-verbal skills essential for a public speaker.
  • Evaluate public speaking skills in self and others.
