CMST& 210 - Interpersonal Communication Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 Theory and practice of communication; understanding self and others while working to improve effective communication and conversation in one-on-one interactions in academic, professional and interpersonal settings. Course Outcomes:
- Identify and define the value of effective interpersonal skills.
- Apply the definitions of communication and conversation.
- Identify the effect basic manners and social etiquette.
- Apply interpersonal conflict resolution skills in personal, academic, and professional settings.
- Explain the effect of cognitive biases on interpersonal communication.
- Analyze communication and conversational differences between both macro and micro cultures.
- Utilize a range of effective interpersonal skills to establish positive rapport and manage conflict with friends, colleagues, romantic relationships and familial relationships.
- Create, participate in, define, identify and maintain brave and safe spaces.
- Apply strategies for improving listening skills.
- Construct and integrate strategies to deal with emotional challenges, such as communicating empathy, managing anger, and dealing with grief.
- Identify, describe and apply effective vocal and para-linguistic (non-verbal) conversational skills.
