CNC 111 - CNC Operations II Credits: 5 LAB hours per week: 7.500 This class will cover the day-to-day operations in a CNC production shop. It will include the following: going over the common alarms and how to troubleshoot them, making adjustments in the work and tool offsets, and changing tools when tool life has expired. Lessons are based on standard industry practice and will be taught in a lab setting. Course Outcomes:
- Demonstrate how to adjust for cutter wear.
- Identify when a tool neeeds to be replaced.
- Identify what tool wear has occurred and what would be a good corrective action.
- Demonstrate how to adjust work offsets.
- Produce parts in quantities of ten or more of the same part configuration to the tolerance stated on the blueprint.
- Set the machines up to do multiple parts per cycle.
- Write an end of shift report.
- Write a maintenance report.
- Manage the coolant to keep mix correct as well as keeping levels correct.
- Identify alarms, look them up in the manual, and list possible corrective actions.
- Explain the troubleshooting process.
- Explain the process of cutting soft jaws.
- Demonstrate how to load parts correctly into a fixture.
